Fish Pedicure

|

Apparently, fish pedicures (having fish nibble dead skin off your feet) are all the rage in beauty treatment:

Customer Patsy Fisher, 42, of Crofton, Maryland, admitted she was nervous as she prepared for her first fish pedicure. But her apprehension dissolved into laughter after she put her feet in the tank and the fish swarmed to her toes.

"It’s a little ticklish, actually," she said.

Ho said the hot water in which the fish thrive doesn’t support much plant or aquatic life, so they learned to feed on whatever food sources were available — including dead, flaking skin. They leave live skin alone because, without teeth, they can’t bite it off.

Orangutan attempts to hunt fish with spear

| | |

A male orangutan, clinging precariously to overhanging branches, flails the water with a pole, trying desperately to spear a passing fish.

It is the first time one has been seen using a tool to hunt.

The extraordinary image, was taken in Borneo on the island of Kaja, where apes are rehabilitated into the wild after being rescued from zoos, private homes or even butchers' shops.

Fish Car

|

An artist is finding it hard to find a parking "plaice" for his silver car since converting it into a giant fish.

Andy Hazell, from Knighton, Powys, has spent thousands turning his Vauxhall Corsa into an 18ft (5.5m) scale model of a sea bass.

Mr Hazell, 48, has also fitted a hydraulic system so the fish can swish its tail, raise its fins and open and close its mouth.

He said: "Some people do think I'm mad, but I love building strange things."

There are 320 fluorescent lights along the fish's streamlined aluminium body and 12-volt motors operate the moving parts.

Giant Grouper to feed 500 people

| |

This giant grouper is 2.08 meter long and 0.6 meter in width. This fish weighing 371 kg was caught by a fisherman who fought with it for about 20 hours at Xisha Islands before dawn on Oct. 28.

A Dongguan seafood hotpot restaurant paid $6,700 for this monster. It was sent into the kitchen to make fish fillet, fish balls, dumplings and more. The resulting dishes are able to feed 500 people.

GloFish = Fluorescent Pet Fish

| |

A while ago, scientists at the National University of Singapore created transgenic, fluorescent zebra fish by injecting red, green, and orange fluorescence genes from a jellyfish into the fish eggs. They did this so the fish could help detect environmental pollutants.

Now, you can actually have them for pets! They are marketed under the name GloFish, and look very cool under a black light. Buy yours here
