    Could have gone one worse

Could have gone one worse and used a microSD card but it might have been hard to see in such a small picture ;)

    speed though

Show the volume per byte curve over time. Now show the speed of random byte access latency over time. The technology is largely the same, but is just smaller and improved. Flash mem I guess is a pretty good advancement.

    Ha!

I was looking for the second picture then I noticed they were holding a SD card. Imagine the cell phone you would put that into!

    Almost...

Not even the smallest 1GB card on the market?
Why didn't they use a MicroSD card?

    They go up to 2GB.

    We're probably not even

We're probably not even getting the full effect, as I'm sure the old disk is multi-platter!!

    Well...

The old one looks safe and solid and businesslike. 20 years ago a gig of data probably was more important stuff than a bunch of mp3s and snapshots of your dog too... :)
